As the US prepares for what is arguably the most open presidential election since 1928, the last time there was no incumbent president or vice-president on the ballot, the Daily Telegraph\’s Washington correspondents compile a list of the 100 most influential liberals in America. James Petras is #59. Noam Chomsky is #63.
59. JAMES PETRAS
Political activist and writer
A retired academic who describes himself as an “anti-imperialist” activist and writer, PetrasÂ’ works reflect a strong Leftist attitude towards international policy. Formerly taught sociology at Binghamton University in New York. Writes for liberal Internet websites and several Spanish-language newspapers in Latin America.
He has written extensively on Latin American politics and revolutions and his recent book “The Power of Israel in the United States” takes a hard look at the role of the Jewish lobby in American government and foreign policy.
